A thermometer symbol below the idea that shows its ranking on the heated debate scale.

When somebody posts an annotation, they can click how heated they are when they post it by hitting one of ten submittal buttons at the bottom from 1 (calm and peaceful) to 10 (blind rage)

The average anger ranking is shown on the post so we can all go right to the most heated ones or avoid them as the person's taste dictates.

So you'd see:

Make Kittens Into Fur Coats For Rich People

That's supposed to be a VU meter with 9 of 10 lights lit up.

Kittens as fur coats for rich people would never sell: they're too cheap. Pandas, on the other hand . . . that bicolour thing is pretty, an adult panda is a little larger than a human, being a vegetarian the meat wouldn't be all gristly . . .

Wouldn't the kittens scratch the wearer and be too fidgety?
hippo, Aug 24 2014

No, you staple them together with the legs outwards.

ime, halfbakery rarely has flame wars. It has either one idiot prodding the other users, or the other users prodding the idiot.
calum, Aug 24 2014

That being an example of the former I presume?

There have been some very interesting debates on this site where people from different perspectives have made valid points. These debate posts like 21's "Welfare Reform Compromise #21" are pretty popular for a good reason. Smart people don't always agree on complicated issues, that's what makes discussions interesting. Until some idiot starts calling people idiots. (irony noted)

// It has either one idiot prodding the other users, or the other users prodding the idiot. //

What if the users are idiots too ?

Impossible. When a group of people band together they're always really smart.

//That being an example of the former I presume?//
a hit, a very palpable hit

How about a gentle nudge to the ribs with a wink and a smile?

C'mon Cal old buddy, throw us a bun. You know you like a good word slingin' match as much as the next guy.
doctorremulac3, Aug 24 2014

       //nudge ... wink //
say no more

       I say slap him sideways.
blissmiss, Aug 24 2014

No slapping, only hugs allowed here.

I declare this post a goovy love zone. Nude dancing is encouraged.
doctorremulac3, Aug 24 2014

I've been in a state of 10 (blind rage) for years now.
zeno, Aug 25 2014

Good. If you're not angry you're not paying attention.
doctorremulac3, Aug 25 2014

       Wry & very true.

Personally fell of the scale about 3 years ago (only so long you can maintain blind rage before you conclude nothing will change or help & collapse into complete apathy).
Skewed, Aug 25 2014

I like to tread the line between dauntless crusader and apathetic bemused onlooker.

Much depends on whether or not there's a game on that day.
doctorremulac3, Aug 25 2014

Very wise, occasionally switching between the two may help stave off the inevitable burnout a tad longer.
