The phrase 'crumpled heap' comes to mind.

"Have Cave, Will Travel "is the name given to a new mobile cave which tours around allowing people who have never visited a cave to spend time in one, experiencing some of its unique features. It's a bit like The Mobile Library only it's a cave.

The cave itself is constructed inside a 40 ft container and towed around by a powerful truck. Visitors pay an entrance fee then step inside an authentic stone age cave.

Once inside they are shown around the cave by its resident caveman/woman. Highlights include the cavewall paintings and there is a fire on which a cave meal is always available. It's simple food, consisting of precooked animal bones from which hot marrow can be sucked via bamboo straws.

Other attractions include learning how to make fire and there is a collection of dried animal skulls for the more energetic visitor to bash up with a heavy cudgel.

Before departing, visitors are encouraged to leave hand prints on a section of the cave wall just as their ancestors did many millenia ago.

I mean, a slight glance left or right will reveal it's a container. It can't be made of rock for weight reasons. It's quite small by cave standards, are real caves that scarce?

I think caves and human history has some significant selection bias. Caves aren't very nice places to be as a rule. Usually damp, always full of bat shit often already occupied by a bear or some snakes. I think they might have functioned like they do now: some local teenagers go out of curiosity, graffiti the walls and move on.
