In keeping with the exponential rise in needless electronics and excessive nagging - many cars now track the position of your face/eyes. They use this to make irritating bonging noises as soon as you look anywhere but straight ahead. The best application for this is when travelling through a safari park
at 5mph, why look out of the side window at the lions when there's some perfectly serviceable empty road ahead.
Anyhow, we could use this tech to improve the humble windscreen wiper. By tracking where you are looking, software could make the windscreen wipers avoid that area of the screen, like a jumpy animal. Then your vision will not be impeded by a wiper and the enormous crash will be avoided.
To implement this, we'll need quite a sophisticated mechanism with both wipers driven independently by a relatively powerful servo including a rotary encoder to ensure it knows it's position at all times. Software will need to include various exceptions to stop the wipers running into each other.
This will require more processing power, more components and likely re-calibration every time you change your wiper blades. But I find this entirely consistent with the trajectory of modern car development.

Use the pre-existing road attention alarm system. Having it go off roughly once per second while the wipers are active is entirely consistent with the trajectory of modern car development. |

Also, while driving there should be an alarm to alert you if your doors are unlocked - this represents a security risk. Conversely, if your doors are locked an entirely separate alarm should warn you that you are at risk of impeded egress in the event of a post crash fire. |

Obviously, the subsystem that automatically applies the brakes in the event of danger will be activated by the sightline-impairment alarm, so the brakes are dabbed every time the wipers obstruct your vision. |

Have the car drive in a direction & speed such that the rain doesn't fall on the windscreen & various sensory components.
(This may affect your ability to get where you want to go, but the car is now more important than the passengers...) |
