Heavy Luggage Curling

winter sports with luggage

Curling is a wonderful winter sport, with the Ailsa Craig granite stones sliding down the iceway, assisted in their paths by the relentless scrubbing of the ice, but it's very technical and there's not much variation at work.

I'm proposing Heavy Luggage Curling as an alternative version.

Everything else remains the same, except instead of the nice round stones, the competitors must use heavy suitcases filled with their clothes and other possessions. These cases are specially made for the sport with flimsy locks that can readily be burst open with a suitable impact in the right place.

The objective now changes slightly to one of trying to use the momentum of your case sliding on the ice to bash into; fling open, and spill out the contents of the competitor's case(s).

The winner will naturally be the team with most suitcases intact and the least amount of their contents strewn across the ice.

Is this the 6 or 12-hour version?

Not sure if I understand the question but will try to answer if you represent it.

Why on ice? Suitcases nowadays usually have wheels. Airport terminusses are large open indoor spaces with smooth level floors and a lavish supply of luggage.

       But the ice is cooler.

Oh - I totally accidentally deleted the last annotation about the luggage carousels in Alabama - which I really liked as an idea. Post it again - it's totally approved. I tried to get it back but no luck on pesky iPhone....

For added fun this could be done at the unclaimed luggage center in Alabama. Baggage could be loaded onto carousels 1 by 1 and the players would just have to deal with whatever baggage or item came next, Tetris-style.

       Approved! Love it.
