Hybrid Wire and Chaff Anti-drone Netting

Weave thin strands of Aluminium wire into anti-drone nets, and attach chaff strips

Anti-drone netting covers many areas in Ukraine and Russia. What if the nylon anti-drone netting had thin aluminium metal threads woven-in? That would work as a sort of Faraday cage, disrupting radio signals between the drone and its controller. (Yes, I know fiber-optic drones exist. This is for radio controlled drones - perhaps even drones that use mesh radio networks to extend range).

In addition, attach strips of chaff - aluminium strands of specific length (say, 6.25 cm long for a 2.4 GHz control signal) at regular intervals. This would scatter specific control signals further.

The aluminium chaff would also act as highly reflective micro-mirrors, reflecting the temperature of the open sky to any IR cameras looking down for heat sources.

The weight and cost increase would be negligible. For further protection, two layers of netting would laid, separated by a physical gap of a few cm. The three-dimensional positioning of scattering elements would increase destructive interference and further protect assets underneath the netting.

A portable version of this concept would fly a personal protective net above individuals or vehicles, with rotors holding up the four corners of the netting. As an aerial threat was detected via sound, or on user input, the rotors would automatically change the orientation of the netting to provide a shield from the oncoming threat. A tether to the protected asset underneath could provide power. This reduces death and destruction.

As a side note, the Ukrainian drone operators have learned how to temporarily hang an active drone off netting, simulating a snagged and thwarted attack, only to release and act as a "waiter" like the ones sitting in the bush alongside roads, but activated by motion or visually monitored. Slava Ukraini!

@minoradjustments, @Voice, glory rather to God and his blessings on peacemakers. May they succeed ending this foolish war.

On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, there comes a point where self-defence is necessary. Opinions may vary about where that point is.

@pertinax, self-defense is not wrong - this idea itself is a self-defense idea. But such things are only partially useful. Peacemaking is the real solution.
