Thought it would be cool to have a spherical vinyl phonograph record, saw that somebody had already done but but not the way pictured it, just take the ball shaped record and place it on the short spindle the player, there's a small alignment hole on the bottom. The groves are sensed and wheels turn
it appropriately over the needle after the spindle moves downward allowing the ball to be spun in all directions as necessary to play all the grooves.
Could use lasers, but I'd definitely want physical grooves. Just using sensors for alignment, tracking of speed, etc.
Would also be kind of neet to watch as it rotated omnidirectionally, not just turning like a regular record like the example linked.
Could also do a two sided thing like a regular record with side A and side B labels. Maybe have a smooth area between the two sides you pick it up by. Be a bit bigger but keeping that aspect of a regular record might be cool.
Would play regular flat records too, just sense if it's ball or disk and adjust and play accordingly.
Like so

Forgot to put a label on it.
https://www.dropbox...we&st=5obw47ap&dl=0 Need to know what you're playing. You'd put it label up, little hole opposite side underneath on a spindle like a regular record, spindle retracts. When it was upside down the record is done. [doctorremulac3, Jun 09 2026]
Couldn't get it to do the right size, be about half the size shown, but it's the basic idea.
