Iraqi Statehood

The solution is simple; the 51st U.S. State

This way in the Iraq they will all be U.S. Americans, and we can help them for their future, and everything like such as.

Everywhere like such as. http://youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww
You gotta have maps. Can't find the U.S. on a map if you don't have one. [globaltourniquet, Sep 10 2007]

You have to find it first... http://www.boreme.c...5/usa-invade-p1.php
I'm sure you've all seen it before, but it still makes me chuckle (and terrified at the same time). [theleopard, Sep 10 2007]

But will it come in as a Red State or a Blue State?
Galbinus_Caeli, Sep 10 2007

       Green State, obviously.
DrCurry, Sep 10 2007

Green state? that would be the Naderites wouldn't it?

can I just bone this and run away?

I think that Iraq would benefit from minimum wage, emergency health care, police services, federal education funds, etc. etc.

I always start thinking like this whenever I hear about a country going down the crapper. Personally I wouldn't mind ridiculously high taxes if I thought they were being used to drag a country into the first world. It certainly would beat the current sytem, where they are used to bomb them into the stone age.

This is true lateral thinking - to "bring the troops home now", simply change the definition of "home".
phundug, Sep 10 2007

On a somewhat unrelated note, US occupied Japan and NATO occupied West Germany both did quite well over time. Why isn't occupied Iraq enjoying the same prosperity?
GutPunchLullabies, Sep 10 2007

You've mentioned Iraq, Americans, and "we" all in one sentence.

Congratulations in advance on inciting pages upon pages annotations.

[GPL] That is a huge and complex question.

One factor, among many, is the lack of a Marshall Plan for Iraq.
Galbinus_Caeli, Sep 10 2007

Let's see - we've bankrupted Iraq, destroyed its infrastructure, ruined any viable domestic industry, opened its borders to illegal immigration and privatized it. Sounds just like America to me, which I guess makes it pretty well baked. [+]

//One factor, among many, is the lack of a Marshall Plan for Iraq.//

In a way, the Marshall Plan was the basis for the invasion. The administration hoped to make a quick buck on light and sweet Iraqi crude (costs about $1 per barrel to extract - the steel drum actually costs more thqan the oil, or did, anyway); a quick takeover and set up shop with ExxonMobil and BP, but things didn't exactly turn out the way they planned ... funny thing is, Hussein was our boy, practically installed by the CIA. If we hadn't been in such a hurry to decleare the "peace dividend" obsolete in '91 by provokng the Kuwait invasion we could have made whatever sweet deal we wanted to.

Wouldn't it have to be the 51st and 52nd state? Sunniexas and Shittessippi, maybe?

       Don't forget Kurdizona
