You get to feel good about saving the planet while being realistic about what actually happens after you diligently separate all your garbage into different categories. (link)
Let's be realistic "recycling" bin.

We recycle here. I was told by the dude that picks up the recycling to quit sorting things because as a commercial pick-up it all just gets dumped in the land-fill. |
| |
...after five years of sorting every fucking thing that came or went from this place. |
| |
I had a 6400sq. ft. building collapse and made a point out of separating all of the drywall into one massive load because it costs more to dispose of. When I asked them if there was an area to dispose of it like the asbestos area they said no just dump it with the rest. |
| |
So what the fuck am I paying extra to dump drywall for if it's not going to be recycled?!!! |
| |
God help me, I am so done with con-men. |
| |
Those mofo's got sum loin'n cummin. POS all of them. |
| |
Let's get to wiping boys! |
| |
The illusion of saving the planet. I suppose the blue bin itself is recyclable, which means it too should go to the dump. |
| |
Theres a great episode of the Penn & Teller show that covers recycling. Ill see if theres a link. |
| |
All I know is that I have 6400 sq.ft. by 4 ft. deep pit to fill... |
| |
...and that any other gyprock will become a future mine rather than a payment to a con-man. |
| |
Fuck con-men. Like figuratively speaking of course. |

What pissed me off was banning all the plastic stuff, like straws and bags, because they end up in the ocean up some sea turtle's nostril. I live 300 miles from the coast, with multiple mountain passes between me and the ocean. My garbage gets dutifully placed IN the garbage, which I'm told goes to waste treatment plants and/or landfills. How the hell is it ending up in the ocean? Come to find out, it isn't the US that's putting all that plastic in the ocean, it's basically ALL coming from the shithole countries with no government regulation over trash disposal. And because THEY can't be bothered to dispose of THEIR trash responsibly, WE have to give up everything worth getting out of bed for in a performative display of virtue signaling. |
| |
Con-men are welcome suck my ass. |
| |
Recycling is a last resort though, after everything else has failed. We shouldn't be producing enough waste to recycle. Back in the early '90s, when I worked for a recycling centre, I did an experiment where I filled a washing powder box with all my waste. I worked out that it would've taken me 120 years to fill a wheelybin. |
| |
The other thing is that if you are producing a lot of recyclable waste, you could to some extent recycle it yourself. I've done this with HDPE and it would also work quite well with polypropylene. There are apparently people who do this. You're throwing away a lot of stuff you could use if you recycled it, not by upcycling but actually by recycling. |
| |
Don't worry about the problem in the link folks, they're banning plastic straws. Yea, they turn to mush after about three sips but heroism comes at a cost. (link) |
| |
Boy 21 you hit that one square on target. They're banning plastic straws while turd world countries annihilate the environment with impunity. |
| |
I've come to realize selling disasters for profit is a massive industry but here's a trick to separate the scammers from those who genuinely mean well. Give a proposed solution where they don't get paid and see if they ignore it. |
| |
Global warming: "YOU NEED TO PAY ME CARBON CREDITS SO I CAN BY MY MANSION ON THE BEACH WHICH WILL BE UNDER WATER IN 15 YEARS! HURRY OR I'LL CALL YOU A DENIER!" |
| |
Trick: "Can we gradually replace coal power plants with 4th generation nuclear power plants?" |
| |
Their answer: "DON'T CHANGE THE SUBJECT CLIMATE DENIER! JUST PAY ME!" |
| |
Plastic pollution: "THE OCEANS ARE BEING DESTROYED BY PLASTIC POLLUTION! YOU NEED TO SUPPORT MY BILL TO OUTLAW PLASTIC STRAWS AND LET ME PROFIT OFF OF FAKE RECYCLING SCAMS!" |
| |
Trick: "What percentage of global plastic in the ocean is because of plastic straws from first world countries that don't dump their garbage in the ocean?" |
| |
I find the world to be a confusing place sometimes, but following the money often puts things in focus. |
| |
By the way, doesn't mean that efficient recycling isn't an honorable goal to work towards, evidently recycling aluminum works okay, but honorable goals quite often get taken over by scammers. Even more so than people who genuinely want to help because scammers are unburdened by having to come up with ACTUAL solutions. |
| |
We should recycle anything which can be recycled. |
| |
Those things which can't be recycled should be burnt for fuel to power our grid. My Coanda Tornado idea should be used to remove any excess toxins from the environment and we're all good. |
| |
Don't make me do it myself... |
| |
...I will... but by then it will be too late for the rest of y'all. |
| |
So, fucking hop to already. |
| |
Not that I do, but one reason for doing it yourself is that it's your property and you have control over it until you throw it away, and you may be wasting a source of income. You've bought the packaging (usually it's packaging) and on the whole when you've paid for something you value it, but in a sense you're giving away raw materials. The reason for doing that is presumably lack of time or confidence that you can do something to make them useful, but for example you could make furniture from the polythene. |
| |
Interesting. There are no doubt solutions out there to be found that could work. And I like that neither of those ideas proposes making money off of other citizens by taxing them or levying price increases on products. I think a big barrier to getting things done is money scammers who look at any problem as just another opportunity to rip off the people without actually solving the problem. |
| |
For instance, know why they dont want nuclear power? No money in it. The only things that benefit are the environment and the citizens. Likewise, there are no doubt great solutions out there for recycling and helping the environment, but they have to push through the elites working on their number one goal which is making money off of any crisis or issue we face regardless of whether it solves a problem or not. |
| |
The solution is to make it worth your while. If there were more than a few pennies worth of raw material you could extract cheaply and without a ton of energy, markets would be found. |
| |
They're doing the opposite here. |
| |
Between the motel and the pub, we get a lot of empties, so I signed up for their bulk can bag program where you get less than full deposit but you don't have to manually sort them. Yesterday there was a new sign stating that all bulk cans need to be pre-sorted between alcohol and soda cans before hand because of some new hoop our government has imposed. |
| |
I think I'm starting to see the problem and am SO glad we all told the bureaucrats to pound salt up their asses as it pertains to registering our weapons. Nobody north of the 49'th parallel is doing their agenda-dance much longer. That little ball-sack hanging down into the States, calling itself Canada, is on it's own. |
| |
...at least until it decides to represent the entirety of this country and not just its own district of it. |
| |
Millions of tons of "recycled" items end up in places like Nigeria where they poison entire communities (see link) Out of sight, out of mind, except for those being poisoned by the results. |
| |
rare earths are reinvigorating the subject to some extent. But honestly, once Elon gets the rockets going, just put them on Mars. It'll be great to confuse future xenoarchiologists. |
