Manual Double entry security verification
Imagine you're changing something in your account for a service Rather than wait for a spoofable email or text message , you have to have created an item in your phone to say you're expecting the matching change |

In other words. We don't trust incoming messages, we trust a place on our phones where we specify what we are expecting.

I have an autheticator app on my phone, it seems to do what you suggest. |
|
| |
The Microsoft or Google authenticator app updates automatically with the request. Someone could be trying to sign in at the same time as you and try get you to approve their one. |
|
| |
By manually double entry entering the request you can be sure it was your input that matched the pending one. |
|
| |
To clarify this idea is about manually inserting a record to match the change requested |

+ for people who need and want extra security.
And for contributing to the HB.
On the other side, usually i'm not concerned with security at all, and want things to be EASIER. But then again, once security is in place, it should be the best possible. So + |

I see the word "trust" used in this idea. |
|
| |
I also see that it is preceded by the words "your phone" in the idea. |
|
| |
I'm sorry, I'm incapable of combining these. I may be compelled to rely on my phone, but any trust I place in it is at best, again, compelled. |

It will be some time yet before telecommunications are not open to abuse... |
|
| |
...and then a bit longer as more loopholes are found. |
|
| |
...and then a bit longer after that, just like it was with the telephone... |
|
| |
...and then the next thing will emerge... |
|
| |
Too funny ... I named my phone when I finally was compelled to retire my dumb burner pay per minute fone. |

My "smart" phone's moniker is "Snitch" - A tip of the hat to John Varley's "Demon". |
