Shoe Smartphone

Use your shoes as your 'phone

Many years ago now, a 6502-based computer was designed to fit in a shoe heel, using tapping the foot as input and, I dunno, a vibrator as output or something, to count cards in a casino. Integration today is on a much larger scale and you could pack a lot more into the heel of a shoe than you could back in the '70s. In fact you could very obviously and easily fit a smartphone inside, particularly considering that the average number of shoes being worn by any one person is usually quite close to two.

This, then, is my thought: put the circuitry of a smartphone into the heels of a pair of shoes and have them communicate with each other, with slots in the sides of the heels for a SIM and an SD card for files, media etc. Use a headset to communicate with them via bluetooth and interact with them using tapdancing. In the meantime, they're in an ideal place to count your steps and you won't go out without your 'phone unless you're accustomed to walking outside barefoot. If you like, lift a shoe to your ear and dial numbers on a keypad on the upper, using it like an ordinary handset.

Shoe phone [xenzag, Feb 18 2026]

Its going to lead to some awkward questions at the airport. I got some questions about a Meshtastic node I was carrying the other week. 2 sentences into the explanation the lady's eyes glazed over and I was on my way. Boredom is a powerful tool.

This is true. I suppose you can choose which shoes to wear or carry there, and the heels could also be removable.

So baked then? Not in this precise form but I don't want to be picky, and actually I disagree that it would've been impossible in that form in the '60s because it's like an Erikofon or handset.
