Music streaming apps like Spotify and YouTube music use lots of data pulled from the cloud to curate subscribers' playlists. It uses data like "what do OTHER listeners typically play after this song?" as well as things like tempo, genre, and other bits of metadata. Offline music players, for playing
your on-device mp3 and FLAC files, don't have that functionality. None of them do! So the idea is for a smartphone music player app that can access publicly, readily available databases that users upload their playlists to like MusicBrainz to get that kind of data, using AI to make best guesses on what's "close enough", and then lets you TELL it what sort of playlist you're looking for, and then curates a playlist using your own downloaded music, dynamically updating in real time if you skip a song. It would also use local, on-device sonic analysis (another feature missing from EVERY music player app) to provide even more data for the AI DJ to use.
Just because the music is stored locally doesn't mean the entire process of playing it HAS to be done offline, yet every music player app I've tested treats it that way. This is designed to solve that problem!

Yes; this is the way it would work, if you were the customer, not the product. [+] |

It's so annoying, because I actively and willingly GIVE them my data. I actually buy shit from targeted ads sometimes. I'm not even asking for it for free, Spotify could EASILY make a version of their app for this. |
