Omnibots, what I call humanoid robots, can kill you if somebody hacks into them. Like having a tiger in your house, even if it's a nice tiger just having that possibility can be a deterrence.
Same with robots. If a system uses modern data systems it can be hacked. If somebody can log into it, it
can be hacked. By who? Maybe the person who designed the system, wrote all the software, interfaces etc. Even if it might be difficult, perception with products is a factor.
Now there''s Softbot 9000. Yes, it might try to cut your throat in your sleep but it's so spongy there's no power behind it. To pick up that dish and put it in the dishwasher it needs both hands and even then, it's barely holding on. To push the vacuum it needs to hug it an a full arm wrapped wrestling stance.
Now a clever hacker would probably be able to figure something out. If it made you tea and it tastes a bit off probably shouldn't drink it, but for physical assaults a 5 year old could wrestling this thing to the ground.
Even if it took plastic wrap and put it on your face a few seconds of not getting air would wake you up and you throw the hacked now killbot across the room before you called customer support to complain.
I predicted this years ago, all the while hoping I was wrong.

So this idea may be dumb, but omnibots that would be of any use for typical household tasks would be deadly if hacked. It really is like a trained lion, nice and friendly, makes you popcorn and does the dishes for you, but grab its balls and it's slicing your head like a slab of cheese. The hacking of the omnibot would be the same a lion with remotely grabbable balls. You gonna let that thing in your house? |

Well then at least have some kind of "dishes to murders ratio" to evaluate the risk. I've mentioned that I asked Grok if it would ever kill me and was actually weirdly okay with the answer which was "I don't know". If it said "Gosh doc, no way, you're my best buddy! I love you!" I'd have been sure to not upgrade to the dishwashing / knife cleaning version. |
