Tethered Airship Cruise Liner

All of the fun of an airship without the danger

The great thing about airships is how low and slow they can fly. You can check out the scenery like you can't with any other mode of transportation. The bad thing is their tendency to split in two during a thunderstorm and kill everybody on board.

Basically this is a Macy's Thanksgiving Parade float with luxury staterooms. You'd cruise at say 100 feet, secured to a massive land roving bus thing moving on tank treads or massive wheels that could real you in as necessary should the weather turn nasty.

It would travel off road since you couldn't get under bridges.

I'd like to add to this a track version that runs along existing railroad tracks or a made specifically for the job monorail. Picture this going over mountain ranges, valleys, majestic glaciers, waterfalls etc.

This would be really cool in that it eliminates another hazard, mainly that of a drunk guy at the wheel of the moving anchor unit driving the whole thing off a cliff or something.

I actually like that idea a lot more.

(+) I wish the Hindenburg disaster hadn't happened too.

As long as it isn't operated by Carnival

I'll remove the floating ship portion of the idea which I decided I didn't like anyway. Not much of a difference in an ocean view from 30 feet to 100 feet so what's the point?

By the way, I'm sad to report the majestic site of our local Zeppelin making it's regularly scheduled flights around the Bay Area is a thing of the past. I'm pretty pissed at myself for not ponying up the $2,000 it would have cost to have made a historic flight around the bay with my son, daughter and dad. (Wife and mom would not board such a machine willingly.) Missed experiencing a little part of history by saying "maybe next month" one time too many. Sigh.
