The Bachelor Chef

Still tastes good, right?

(+2, -2)

This is a cooking show that compares the culinary results of a lone bachelor who has a kitchen full of ingredients and a shelf of cookbooks, who likes the taste of good, well-prepared food but who doesn't care at all about presentation or curb appeal, with the actual cookbook pictures of the original chef's offering.

While using all the right ingredient and closely approximating the recipe's methods, there may be significant excursions from the original intent and flavor profile as well as the visual appearance and attractiveness of the product. He is not daunted.

The bachelor perseveres, cooking and tasting, mixing and spilling, rejecting and redoing, until finally enjoying the dish which may be ugly but is delicious.

At the end of each episode we are treated to a comment by the original chef author. This is brutal reality TV at its worst.

Why wouldn't this hypothetical bachelor subsist on canned chili, frozen waffles and cereal? Cooking can be time consuming

Cookbooks are a cheat ... Provide the kitchen and the ingredients, but no more.

[sninc] Cooking is elemental and delicious. It works even if the result is a dog's breakfast. Why eat canned chili when you can scorch your very own chiles and soak your own beans and end up with something that may not make you proud but will certainly fill the void within, cheaper than store-bought and much better, if lacking in presentation.

[norm] Have you ever given the AI a list of ingredients on hand and asked for a recipe? Works. They read really fast.

Thanks, but I am avoiding using that tool until such time as I am compelled to or someone pays me to do so.

I have colleagues who work in LLM development and experiment with it, but the closest I ever did to what you suggest was to search for the words "recipe" and note an ingredient as you suggest pre AI.
