The Sechs Le Lingue De Lyubit Soshite Meurtre

Livre pour les personnes qui parlent six langues
  [vote for,

Yadi aap kokatel paartee mein hain aur kaha ki “The Sechs Le Lingue De Lyubit Soshite Meurtre" to har koee upayukt roop se prabhaavit hoga jo un logon ke lie bahut achchha hai jo logon ko upayukt roop se prabhaavit karana pasand karate hain.

OK, the translation thing screwed up the last couple of lines but basically if you could read this novel you'd be the toast of people who toast that sort of thing.

Throw us a bone here: what are the languages you've used? I only speak English, maths, and music.

Novel For People Who Speak Six Languages, the title being "The Six Languages Of Love And Murder" each word being in a different language. International drug smuggling crime novel with lots of beautiful women, intrigue etc.

And speaking of throwing bones, I'm guessing there's a bone storm coming my way with this one.

[+] for what I understand so far. The first two paragraphs of body text, despite obviously not being written in French, are perfectly translatable from French to English using Google Translate. I was unable to get the third and fourth to translate properly from any reasonable language.

Well, to sell the idea, this might be a book that was notorious for being able to be read by only a few people in the world which would be kind of cool. I don't know many people who speak more than two languages. The one guy I know who spoke 7 languages was brilliant but nutty as a fruitcake. He relayed the time where he was drunk listening to the radio and didn't realize they were speaking Spanish until they said something that only a Spanish speaking person would say.

Didn't ask him what that was.

Anyway, these folks are called polyglots. (link)

And they are also usually sesquipedalians.

[doctorremulac3] thanks. How do you propose to get around the different syntaxes and grammatic arrangements of the different languages? Especially things like Arabic (right-to- left instead of the "normal" european left-to-right) or Japanese (traditionally top-to-bottom...)?
neutrinos_shadow, Apr 02 2019

Sesquipedalian is surprisingly easy to say five times fast.

       To the etymological dictionary!
Foot and a half long or half as much again?

Its called "code switching" isn't it, and don't multilingual people do it all the time?

This is just encouraging furriners to go on jabbering in their funny furrin lingo.

//How do you propose to get around the different syntaxes and grammatic arrangements of the different languages?//

I think the languages would be:

English French German Spanish Russian Italian

After sleeping on this idea that I originally I thought was kind of pointless, I kind of want to do it. I believe you might get some notoriaty due to the novelty of the whole thing and if it were a good enough story, get a movie made out of it. (With subtitles obviously).

Find the few people in the world who can speak all these languages and send them a copy and ask for a review. They might be into doing it to show off their language skills.

It would be a pretty exclusive club.

What was the title again? "The Six Languages Of Love and Murder"? Sounds like a thriller. Don't know what the plot would be. International drug runners, James Bond and Bond girl type characters doing crazy stuff. Sounds like a fun summer project. Kind of weird to write a book you couldn't read yourself though. Maybe I'd put learning those other five languages on my bucket list.

This is exactly what it's like* to sit in an IT project progress meeting in Luxembourg. The database admins speak only French, the desktop admins are Italian while the project manager is a native German, the devs are split between Bristol, Vienna and Hyderabad and the users converse in either Flemmish or Luxembourgese. Inviting all members into a long-tabled meeting to go through the JIRA backlog items and you can literally see the waves of translation and interpretation bounce up and down the room.

       * only with more plot-twists.

What the hell did I just watch?

And where do I buy the song? Or whatever it was.
