Last night about 2am my brother heard water running in his kitchen downstairs and, upon rounding the landing at the top of the stairs, slipped in his socks, kept his grip with his right hand on the banister, bounced off the wall on his left, spun around, punching through three balusters with his left
hand and arm, tearing loose of the banister and ending up feet down 7 stairs lower, broken in some as-yet-to-be-defined way.
If one or more StairBags had been installed, his injuries would never have happened or would, at least, be minimized. It's an airbag like in a car but it's energized by proximity speed sensors that deploy the bag(s) when certain parameters have been exceeded.
Put them along those interminable level-changing staircases or escalators where the domino effect can take out a whole troop of Boy Scouts. Never happen with the StairBag.

My bro fell down a flight of stairs once, too, when he was staying with me. I was woken up at 3am by the massive seismic thump. The cause of that particular fall, however, was severe inebriation. In those days he was young and flexible enough that his only injury was a severe carpet burn to the chin. In the morning, he couldn't even remember the event. |

Now, I don't think alcohol would help much. He would certainly need a StairBag. |
