# Tindale Number

Never mind the quality, feel the width.

This is exactly the same principle as the Erdős and Bacon numbers, and the Erdős and Bacon number, and is unique in that it is in no way different from those concepts at all. Except that the Tindale number is qualitatively based rather than quantitatively based.

Basically, if you know me, your Tindale number is the number that comes into your head when you think of the relationship between yourself and myself.

If you don’t know me, but you do know someone that knows me, then your Tindale number is the number that comes into your head when you think of the relationship between yourself and that person.

If you don’t know that person, but you do know someone else that can think of a Tindale number, then your Tindale number is the number that comes into your head when you think of the relationship between yourself and that other person.

If you don’t know that person, but you do know someone else that can think of a Tindale number, then your Tindale number is the number that comes into your head when you think of the relationship between yourself and that other person.

etc.

What if you *are* Ian Tindale? What's your Tindale number then?

(For purposes of completeness, my Tindale number is three and a half, except on Wednesdays, when it's Nine)
— zen_tom, Jan 21 2010

I only know you through this site, so my Tindale number is irrational.
— MechE, Jan 21 2010

Mine is imaginary
— pocmloc, Jan 21 2010

I've been trying to get hold of Avogadro to ask him about his Tindale no. - but his mobile isn't in my contact list.
— Jinbish, Jan 21 2010

I think Tindale's number is up.
— Ling, Jan 21 2010

I have your number in my phone.
— po, Jan 21 2010

My Tindale number is 867-5309.
— phoenix, Jan 21 2010

e. I'm my own derivitive, and never get anywhere when I try and integrate myself either.
— RayfordSteele, Jan 21 2010

Mine's definitely irrational.
— coprocephalous, Jan 21 2010

I think that would make it either your 'phone number or part of your address for most people, but there are probably some who would think of your NI number and a few others who would have a synaesthesia-like association between you, your name or your hair and a number. Then there's Funes the Memorious.

Anyway, you are not a number. You are a FREE MAN!
— nineteenthly, Jan 21 2010

Mine's odd, complex and irrational
— Dub, Jan 21 2010

// Anyway, you are not a number. You are a FREE MAN! //

Wrong ... oh, so very, very wrong ....

Don't have the Pi.

Having sat here and pondered for at the very most, 2 seconds max, I can't come up with any number other then 2 that suits our relationship. Which by the by, has been cemented for all eternity by the 2 cups of coffee you gave me several years ago. So for you, 2 Two Too To Tu-Tu
— blissmiss, Jan 21 2010

Funny, I was wondering who would refer to that reference. Twas you, in the end.
— Ian Tindale, Jan 21 2010

how cute!
— po, Jan 21 2010

What if you don't know anyone?
— wagster, Jan 21 2010

"..One is the loneliest number that has ever been, one is the loneliest number that has ever been, number one..."

// What if you don't know anyone? //

<sings> There's only ONE Ian Tindale... </sings>
— hippo, Jan 22 2010

I sometimes wonder if you actually exist at all under that name. I mean, my real name is actually Septimus Macnineteenthly in real life, as you all know, so by that token are you sure your name isn't really Jan O'Tindale or something? Do we really think of you when we think of you?
— nineteenthly, Jan 22 2010

Oddly enough, my Tindale number is 19.
— tatterdemalion, Jan 22 2010

My Tindale number is an enraged slug or a Bo Diddly album being used as an ashtray, or rather, a bitwise OR of the numbers i associate with those in binary.
— nineteenthly, Jan 22 2010

I need a metric conversion scale...+
— xandram, Jan 22 2010

So this is like Husserl's phenomenology except I can explain this?
