It is well known that Head-Up Displays (HUDs) increase safety by keeping the driver's eyes on the road. I propose an interface device that relays critical telemetry (speedometer, tachometer, fuel level, odometer) from the vehicle OBD-II and on board computer system wirelessly via Bluetooth. The transmitter device would become standard on all new vehicles produced, and offered as a plug-n-play modification to all vehicles manufactured since 1996. The reciever device is embedded in a pair of sunglasses capable of displaying the telemetry information (along with optional data streams such as in car entertainment, external entertainment info [such as an iPod]) onto the lenses of the glasses. Open sourcing and contracts with popular sunglass manufacturers should ensure that a multitude of styles will be available. The unit cost without options would be well under $2,000 and can be offered as an option for all new cars.
