Okay, this one just popped into my head and It's a bit hard to describe.
It's a vertical take off aircraft but picture the wings as though they are horizontal egg beaters... wait let's start more simply, take a long narrow rectangle of paper and twist it into a Mobius strip. Connect it at the centre
and drop it. It will rotate as it falls and this rotation will slow its descent.
Now imagine that you slightly change the shape of the mobius strip while forcing it to rotate with a wound up elastic band attached to a lightweight platform. It would now displace air downwards and would continue to stay elevated for as long as the elastic continues to un-twist.
Scale that up to our original egg-beater aircraft wing, motorize it, give it some dynamic control surfaces, and the same principle will cause those wings to displace large volumes of air in any direction perpendicular to the plane of rotation.

Ha! Those links are awesome! |

Sorry [minoradjustments], not a mobius strip propeller craft. More like the link above yours where the mobius strips rotate in the horizontal plane rather than the vertical one. |

Like egg beaters sticking out the sides of your plane rather than wings. |

It should have appeared back in the Wright brothers age. The maneuverability, (strange misspelling highlight), of such an aircraft would astound. You could instantly reverse direction of thrust, reconfigure your tail section to lock rearward control surfaces while enabling forward control surfaces and fly the aircraft in reverse. |

You could literally pull a Rockford in an aircraft if this was built! |

If your not gen x then look up "pulling a Rockford". |
