A record lathe is a device that produces single vinyl records by etching blanks with a diamond stylus. The styluses are expensive and have a limited lifespan. This idea is to use a heated stylus made of some easier material such as steel. Softening the vinyl with heat as it is etched should reduce stress and wear on the pointy bit.
