Plastic strapping is commonly used these to bind together lifts of lumber, large crates etc for shipping, having mostly supplanted metal strapping. Its made of petg. It mostly all ends up in the garbage, either straight into the bin, or after being carefully seperated for 'recycling'.
It may be possible
to recycle it into 3d printer filament, but the economics of that are challenging.
Wouldn't it be nice if there existed a feeder mechanism for a 3d printer that accepted pieces of plastic strapping as-is, with provisions for handling the short sections of double layers at the welds. Ah, wouldn't it be nice if?

It can be done, it has been done, it should be done more. It's a question of financial incentive really, and color. With recycled plastics, it's hard to get the color you want, a mix ends up brown. |
