A Hamster And A Goldfish Can Be Friends   (+1, -2)  [vote for, against]
friends with benefits

Hamster lives in a little house, where he can move around happily. His little house is fully furnished with miniature domestic chairs, beds, wardrobes and a television, that shows the type of images a hamster would enjoy watching.

Along one entire wall of Hamster's house is an adjoining house containing a goldfish. Inside Goldfish's house resides a small water-wheel that can generate a current against which Goldfish can swim and be exercised.

Goldfish's current is powered by a simple water-proof drive that is connected to hamster's exercise wheel, located in his scaled down gym. A Hamster and a Goldfish can be friends.

Why just hamsters and fish? http://photobucket....JZDo0NjMzOTg0/?ref=

Or, put a roaming goldfish bowl (q.v.) in your hamster cage, and a roaming hamster ball in your fishtank. Even better would be a fishtank with fish and a large hamster ball in it which in turn contained a hamster and a goldfish bowl with a goldfish in it.

Glass tunnels.

Dry tubes for the hamster, running through the water of the tank.

Wet tubes for the goldfish, running through the air of the hamster cage.

Glass, not plastic; hamsters gnaw stuff ...

// the type of images a hamster would enjoy watching //

Congratulations, you've invented hamster porn*. You must be so proud.

The mind boggles ...

*Porn intended for an audience composed entirely of hamsters. Not the other sort.

It hardly needs to be said, but these tubes running through the fish tank need to be wide enough to allow small birds to fly through them. This has a similar visual appeal to that of the semi-submersible ferris wheel (link)

//It hardly needs to be said// - agreed, so why say it? Ha

8th annotation was precisely what I had in mind.

Now, add a cat climbing structure amidst both and terrorize them for a better workout...

// a cat climbing structure // which ends in a water-filled U-bend built like a lobster pot ... <giggling>

A combined aquarium, aviary and small-animal habitat would be fun to watch and good for a science discovery exhibit. It would be possible to have a beehive alongside, with a transparent tube running through to the exterior of the building ... that's been done.

Quite what the fish would make of all the other species perambulating* through their tank is difficult to assess. Cephalopods, being highly intelligent, would no doubt be intrigued.

*The tubes would most likely be too small to allow the birds to fly through. They would have to walk**, too.

** Unless they were primarily ground dwelling birds, in which case they would hop. Ground birds hop***, tree birds walk.

*** Except for flightless birds like ostriches, cassowaries, emus and kiwis. They walk****.

**** unless they manage to hitch a lift.
