Auto-Zip   (-2)  [vote for, against]
Voice activated zip.

Th auto-zip will revolutionize public ablutions. Often have I found myself at the urinal with my hands occupied by a phone or something else.

Pulling your Zip down with one hand is possible but it takes some skillful maneuvering, the auto-zip will enable otherwise occupied hands to remain that way and the zip will on command slide up or down. The auto-zip is beneficial for the disadvantaged too. With a battery in the button of your trousers, and strategically stitched powercables on either side of the zip completing the circuit, the mic will only open on command of your voice, using an unique word.

A friendly almost inaudible voice in your ear will alert you to long periods of exposure.

Then what? I still need two hands to do the rest.

Try Velcro.

I've always found chatting on the phone while at the urinal just a little too weird for even me. It just seems to violate that unwritten law somewhere about not talking to anyone in the john.

"Rosebud. Wait, these aren't my pants!"

Why all the fuss? Just ask the chap next to you to help out.

// Often have I found myself at the urinal with my hands occupied by a phone or something else //

The mind boggles.

I think a major concern for potential users would not be uncommanded deployment, but the more terrfying prospect of the thing closing prematurely and the stall torque on the motor being set too high ......

To me this just seems way too dangerous. And I don't understand how it's hard to open a zipper with one hand?
-- notme, Dec 12 2002

Once the zip is open, you still have to reach inside and pull it out, then shake it and put it away afterwards. I can't quite see doing that without hands. If you really don't want to be bothered, try asking the lavatory attendant to do it all for you. (Don't worry, we'll come see you in jail.)

And I find that loud unfriendly shrieks tend to alert me when I've forgotten to put it away afterwards.

Its easy enough to open a zip with one hand but its the closing part that I struggle with, You have to hold the bottom of the Zip or cross your legs to keep the zip taut so that you can pull it up.

Are you still wearing Jordache Jeans made in 1978?
-- thumbwax, Dec 13 2002

what about a stiff (no pun intended) siding to the zippers so that they are easier one handed?
-- ironfroggy, Dec 13 2002

You just need a friendly female unzipper at every lavatory.

motorised zips and penises, not a good combination
