My side just got a lot bigger.

This addresses the problem of having a bed hog for a partner. You know the one, he or she seems to gradually move from their side to the center, to wa-a-ay over on your side, till it seems it would be worth the effort to get out, jump in the other side and start again.

You mattress is a continuous belt, which runs on a track looping over the sides and under the bed. Proximity sensors at the sides, or a camera mounted above, detect when the joint body mass is encroaching too far to one side of the bed. When this happens, the roller mechanism is activated, and gently and silently returns the sleeping couple to the center of the bed, for an equitable and uncramped night's sleep.

Bed coverings could be anchored at the corners, to remain permanently above the bed, or they could also be on a continuous loop.

Oh yeah!

What happens if one person rolls *away* from the centre? Does the mattress adjust for that? Would one person almost rolling off one side cause their partner to be rolled off the other side? Heh heh.

A bit too heavy-handed on the whimsy. (-+)

oh be more adventurous, foggy.
-- po, Aug 11 2003

i'll buy one, esp if for adventurous love making - there will have to be a frequency control, you could even get the camera involved somehow

Oh yeah!

Add an override control. If that hog crawls towards you one more time you speed up the belt until he falls of the edge.

+ almost solely for [Detly]'s anno.
-- PeterSilly, Aug 12 2003

[Detly] Having a proximty sensor on each side should take care of that.

Making the whole mechanism slent and smooth enough not to disturb your sleep could be an issue.

This would simultaneously also solve the cover-hog problem. Make the sheets and cover cylindrical.

//Could it be turned off for lovemaking?//

No, it makes it more exciting. Sort of like having sex on one of those pirate ship rides.

What an apt anno considering your user name.
