Bird AND Squirrel Feeder   (+6)  [vote for, against]
Turn your yard into an old Disney cartoon with all the forest creatures getting along.

The seed feeder features a section at the top that works best for birds, and one at the bottom that works best for squirrels. No more one or the other. Everybody's happy.
-- doctorremulac3, Nov 29 2022

This would be the bottom section. Bird_20Proof_20Squirrel_20Feeder
The top section would be any of another existing squirrel proof bird feeder mechanisms. [doctorremulac3, Nov 29 2022]

Get this scene going every morning. https://www.youtube...watch?v=mIwa9sPFT5I
Outside though, not in your kitchen. That would be a mess. Shit all over everything. [doctorremulac3, Nov 29 2022]

In other words, don't take things too seriously. My two cents anyway. [doctorremulac3, Nov 29 2022]

Like so perhaps? https://www.pintere...423408802464827161/

Squirrels work out how to empty both sections onto the ground
-- pocmloc, Nov 29 2022

There are anti squirrel bird feeders that work quite well. The weight of the squirrel blocks the flow, etc. Plus the squirrel portion would just be a tray, the bird portion would have locking gates, pathway blocks etc. Why would squirrels do the extra work?

This would just be putting the two mechanisms together so you could watch birds and squirrels having breakfast every morning while you're having your coffee. I'd buy one.
-- doctorremulac3, Nov 29 2022

There are also squirrel feeders - some specifically called "bird-proof squirrel feeders." Some are advertised with the idea of letting the birds and squirrels get along, though not as disney-esque as you might like.
-- a1, Nov 29 2022

Yup. Put those on the bottom, the squirrel proof bird feeders on the top.

One device, two mechanisms, everybody's happy.
-- doctorremulac3, Nov 29 2022

Approved [+] Add in a breast pump feeder and everyone's happy.

:)

Thank you xen, and like I've said many times before, please don't leave, you're an institution here.
-- doctorremulac3, Nov 29 2022

I'm not leaving. I'm just not posting any new ideas as long as autoboning persists.
-- xenzag, Nov 29 2022

I get autoboned for pretty much every idea I have and I really could not care less. I accassionally have a fun interaction with the odd baker here and there and that's good enough. I don't need to get along with everybody at the party to have a good time.

But that's me. I've stopped suggesting that people be nice to each other, it is what it is. But like I said, there are some very cool people here, that's what I come for.

But if I were looking for actual validation this probably ain't the place. I think of it as more of a grafitti scribbled bathroom wall for nurdy engineery / sciency / creativity folks.

That being said, see link for actual video of my interaction with my auto-boner.
-- doctorremulac3, Nov 29 2022

I'm sorry I don't get it. What are the birds and squirrels fed to?
-- mylodon, Nov 29 2022

Each other. Perfect balance and harmony of nature. Saves on buying food as well.
-- pocmloc, Nov 29 2022

Sorry, I didn't make that clear. Yes, like a gladiatorial thing only winner eats the loser. I'm rooting for the squirrels.

Now you might say squirrels aren't coniferous, to which I'd say you spelled carnivorous wrong, but... wait... what was I saying? Oh yea, something about a squirrel launching bird feeder that doesn't so much launch the squirrels as just feed them birds or the other way around.

Unfortunately as mylodon's link pointed out, it's already been done, they just left out the hungry hungry squirrels part.

And the squirrel launcher, which I'm putting back in the design.

[xen] autoboning has always existed. it's a bit like free speech.
-- po, Nov 30 2022

Let's not turn the doc's posting into that (tiresome) discussion.
-- xenzag, Nov 30 2022

21, yea, that's a squirrel / bird feeder but once the squirrels are done with the corn they'll not only eat all the bird seed, they grab mouths full of it and run away with it to their little squirrel's covens, or whatever you call where squirrels live.

"Squirrel" spelled sideways is "Satan" (sort of). There's a reason for that.

So father christmas is just a giant mecha-squirrell? Makes sense, hoards loads of stuff, can get into places fast, bushy furry surround to face and limbs...
-- pocmloc, Nov 30 2022

//So father christmas is just a giant mecha-squirrell?//

Well Poc, that's just silly. He's maybe ten feet tall, tops.
-- doctorremulac3, Nov 30 2022

// you might say squirrels aren't coniferous //

They love the conifers in our yard.

Enjoy a warm steamy bun on this beautiful wintry morning [+]
-- 21 Quest, Nov 30 2022

Thank you sir!
-- doctorremulac3, Nov 30 2022

So for a squirrel feeder, is there a way to make it so they can't leave with their cheeks full? I'm drawing a blank.
-- scad mientist, Dec 01 2022

//make it so they can't leave with their cheeks full?//

One way entrance like a lobster pot.
-- pocmloc, Dec 01 2022

Laughing out loud at that ^
-- 21 Quest, Dec 01 2022

Hey, that's a friggin' good idea!

Kind of like the monkey not letting go of the apple in a pot trap. "Greed will be your downfall little fella!"
-- doctorremulac3, Dec 01 2022

Same with raccoons, that.
-- 21 Quest, Dec 01 2022

Although I find it hard to believe that if a raccoon has his hand on his nuts and an asteroid was bearing down on him he wouldn't let go.

Sorry to use that old canard about the raccoon grabbing his nuts when an asteroid is bearing down on him but it's appropriate here, cliche' though it may be.
-- doctorremulac3, Dec 02 2022

That's a rather ballsy comparison of you to make.
-- 21 Quest, Dec 02 2022

Little nutty, but it was okay.
