Blinking Mannequins   (+20)  [vote for, against]
Ever so slightly disturbing.

These are regular mannequins for displaying clothes in stores, with one slight addition: motorized eyelids which blink in a typical human fashion. Lightweight and carefully balanced, these eyelids can operate on low powered solar cells, charged by the overhead lighting.

If poked, the eyes will blink rapidly before returning to their regular cycle.

Mannequin the movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093493/
She blinks, She talks, She rides a motorcycle. The trash shredder near the end was really frightening. [popbottle, Dec 07 2014]

A fine idea. Blinking is under appreciated as a mark of being alive. I like it better if run by clockwork, so they can continue to blink when all the lights go out. Perhaps some aspect of mannequin anatomy can unobtrusively descend, acting as a clock weight?

Bun on the proviso that they only blink quickly on a very intermittent basis - just so people question their own sanity whilst trying to convince others what they just saw.

Excellent idea. The next model of these mannequins will have blinking and also eye-tracking. Face-recognition technology (as found in any cheap digital camera) will be used to detect shoppers' faces in the mannequin's field of view and point the mannequin's eyes at them.

Do the eyelids move wider when the mannequin is touched?

You're thinking of the "dilating pupils" model

Love it!

[+] very good!

An occasional random sticking its tongue out just a bit might add to the mystery.

Flirting by eye contact detection, blinking twice and moving the eyeball up and away for a second.

I remember a Sony Camera of some type that had a tripod mount which tracked people. If it moved eyes, as Hippo mentioned, that would be really creepy.
