Carnival Gym   (+9)  [vote for, against]
My buddy's idea

A gym with a carnival theme and atmosphere.

Start with the old carnival hammer game where you hit a button with a oversized very heavy sledge hammer and see how high up the light goes.

Then on to the various other workout machines that loudly announce, through lights, bells and sound effects if the exerciser is "Hot Stuff!" "Lightweight" or "Girly Man".

Again, this is not my idea but I think it's outstandingly great. Make going to the gym fun, raucous and loud, sounding more like a casino than a gym. Every workout station is a game.

I'll add this, tickets spit out of the machines, the number of which depends on how well you did. These can be taken to the counter to buy protein drinks, bottled water, nutrition bars etc.

I really, really like this idea. [+]

Some games show little exercise, but most require something. [popbottle, Jul 19 2014]

Weighted spears and hoops for dart games real fire hoses for those water shooting games... and the user has to drag the hose to the starting position Paddleboats, obviously, and paintball How about a drop ride where the riders have to peddle themselves up?

I love this, apart from the gym part.

The concept is good, but getting the execution right would be extremely difficult.

Also, actual carnival games are mostly low effort upper body activities.

Needs rigged games where you can never hit the target. And if you work out as a couple, after a ridiculous amount of effort you should be able to burden your spouse with a large stuffed animal.

I like that idea. If it was something you could take a date to you could impress them with your manhood by giving them a large stuffed polka dot elephant.

There's a crude sexual joke in there someplace but I'll just lob that setup over the plate for somebody else to hit out of the park.

Where else would you buy /a large stuffed polka dot elephant. / ?

Then I guess it's OK that I'm a fat lady with a beard and no one will wonder what I'm doing at a gym? [+]

I just saw the expression on the face of the elephant.

It is curious why gyms are generally such grim, sweaty caverns of Sisyphean labour when they could be happy places with massed synchronised participation in the "U Can't Touch This" dance
