Cell Phone Repeater Balloon   (+4)  [vote for, against]
Take a cell phone repeater, put a balloon on it.

So first you take a balloon, then you hang a cellphone repeater on it.

When you're lost in an area without cell service and dying of exposure, this can give you something to do to pass the time.

"Shouldn't you attach a string to it?"

Sure, if that makes you happy.

Getting it packaged in "survival gear size" would be attactive. Large scale versions have been proposed before.

What is a cellphone repeater, please?

Can you repeat the question, please?

Also known as an amplifier, or signal booster. A device used to improve cell phone reception

Thank you.

Question: Would a package containing a non-repeating antenna and battery not serve just as well and weigh just as much, but be available on a multi-use basis?

You know when you're in a public place or on a train or something and there is an irritating bloke having a loud conversation on his cellphone, and to make sure that everyone listening gets both sides of the story (to show how important he is) he repeats the information the person on the other end gives?

//What is a cellphone repeater, please?//

That's the thing you'd tie to a balloon.
-- doctorremulac3, Aug 16 2023

Thanks, that also explains what the balloon is for - it's an attachment for a cellphone repeater.
-- a1, Aug 16 2023

No you are both wrong. The string is the thing that is attached to each of the other items.
-- pocmloc, Aug 16 2023

So you blow up the balloon, tie the repeater to it and this assembly floats gently to the ground. How would this assist in rescue?
-- whatrock, Aug 16 2023

Maybe the balloon AND the string are brightly coloured and can be seen from a long way off?
-- a1, Aug 16 2023

The repeater could be lighter than air
