Coffee Cup Sunglasses   (+7)  [vote for, against]
Coffee shop visual interaction protection

In my passive aggressive world, social interaction in coffee shops takes place mostly over the top of the coffee cup as It is raised to my face, purportedly for a sip of coffee but in actuality or just by happy coincidence, to check out the hot number who is sitting across the store. Well I may be passive aggressive but I have noticed that there are a number of other furtive over-the-cup glancers who keep Starbucks in business.

I view this kind of social interaction as less awkward than regular face to face negotiation and also a step toward the mediated, assisted world that our awkwardly texting progenitors will inhabit.

So here is the idea: an extended brim to the coffee cup that is made of darkened transparent plastic. With these coffee cup sunglasses, over-the-cup glances will be privatized.

This sounds like an eighteenth-century lady's fan, but with caffeine... which might actually be quite an attractive combination.

I find that using my smartphone's camera as a discrete periscope while moving my thumbs over the screen as if I'm texting works pretty well, especially with the zoom function. The art of being a creep... Easy to learn, difficult to master.

This is weird and good in that sneaky, spy-like style. Like who is that man behind that coffee cup? (Hi 21 Quest, was worried about you, glad you are back amoungst the slightly off kilter.)

Would this not risk dislodging the user's tinfoil-lined solar topee ?
