Cool Helmet.   (+7)  [vote for, against]
Wearable in hot weather.

Bicycle helmets get too hot to wear, particularly on hot days. If I take it off, I risk a $100 fine (I'm not worried about busting my head). What was needed was to find a way for hot moist air, trapped between head and helmet, to be removable by ventilation. To that end, I bought 4 kitchen scrubbing pads made of interwoven wirelike orange and yellow plastic that are about 3cm thick and mostly air. I secured them to the inside of the helmet creating an air space from which the accumulated hot air could be vented out. I found that I was able to wear my helmet even in 100 degree F sun without too much discomfort. I call it my "coolhat", even though it looks as dorky as other bike helmets.

now invent something for women that doesn't mess up their hair!
-- po, Nov 15 2009

A number four razor cut, [po], would be very hard to mess up, and also very comfortable on a hot day (after the razor burn had worn off). And it gets rid of nits, I find.

number 4 - is that short? my hair's down to my shoulders and I quite like it that way - you couldn't tell [nineteethly] and me apart at a distance! nits haven't been a worry since I stopped working with children.

// my hair's down to my shoulders //

After a No.4 razor cut, it would be down around your ankles.

With a #4 haircut, the right hairstyle, and enough hairspray, is a helmet really needed?
-- RayfordSteele, Nov 15 2009

#4 is the least short kind of razor cut. If applied to back and sides only, it's quite a normal sort of haircut. If applied all over my head it scares my children, so they've promised not to bring home any more nits. In fact, they've been anxiously measuring the re-growth ever since I last had it, to reassure themselves that the effect isn't permanent.

so its the hedgehog look then?
-- po, Nov 16 2009

Yes, including a little pointy black nose, little beady eyes, and a tendency to curl unto a tight ball when frightened.

What do you do with the oozy scrapings?
-- rcarty, Nov 20 2009

Don't tell us you've never pondered why hairdressers and kebab shops always seem to exist close to one another ?

Hmm. In a road safety context, maybe the hedgehog look is not such a good idea.
