Custom Constellations   (+3)  [vote for, against]
Happy Birthday in the Sky

Sure, these Starlink satellites promise ubiquitous planetary Internet with no cellphone towers while freaking out astronomers, but while they're at it, let's see if Musk can create some constellations on demand -- maybe he can send Twitter messages there -- the twitterer in chief would surely pay top dollar for that.

Has it ever occurred to your species that the first message any nearby sentient life-form is likely to send to you is "SHUT UP ! " ?

You're filling your local area with space litter and broadband RF noise, like kids on a picnic. Didn't your ancestors teach you to tidy up after yourselves ? Obviously not ...

The first demand is going to be for more episodes of I Love Lucy. Followed 50 years later by a demand to reshoot the ending of Game of Thrones

The constellations would all have to be linear, otherwise they'd change shape as they orbited. But you could have "The Great Worm", "The Little Worm", "The Piece of String", "The Snake" and so forth.

[MaxwellBuchanan]; unless you include the "shape changing" as part of the fun: animated constellations!

Yeah, I was trying to figure if it was possible to have something like "The Scissors" or "The Young Lady Opening and Closing Her Legs", but they won't quite work.

I suppose you could have "The Hedgehog On A Road", which would be flattened into a line twice per orbit.

You could arrange for them to pass over a certain spot at a certain point and only there to make the desired pattern once per orbit. (or some multiple of the orbital period) Signs in the sky to convince religious extremists to give up? Something to show those stone age people in that island off of India? A marriage proposal?

... "We Apologize For The Inconvenience" ?

Or, as the electron said to the superconductor, "resistance is futile"

//The Scissors// Get It At Porky's could be cool. I wonder if he could support multiple colors
