Dish Alarm   (+3)  [vote for, against]
it alarms when a dish is about to spill.

It would be a small device (ideally really small), that when tilted more than about 9 degrees off the center of gravity (possibly adjustable depending on how full your dish is) an alarm would sound, not a loud annoying alarm, but something like a quick beep or something. It would be attached to the side of your dish (like a bowl, or a cup or something) using adhesive sticky things (technically speaking), which would be included with the alarm. After you have attach the alarm to a dish, you would turn it on (while the dish is on a flat level surface like a counter top, or table) and would automatically reset it's center of gravity (which would probably take a couple of seconds or less).

So if you are not paying attention to your food of beverage, the alarm would go off and hopefully prevent you from spilling it.

I think this would work better as a "boil over" alarm. I have worked in professional kitchens for about 13 years and no matter how good the Chef or cooks claim to be, somebody always boils somthing over. If the alarm could beep when a certain temp was reached, not only could you avoid boiling over but you could also set the alarm to beep when a poaching or blanching liquid reached optimal temp. Just a thought.

Useful as a Glass Alarm also. I've lost count of the times I've fallen asleep on the sofa with a glass of wine in my hand, only to be woken by a dampness spreading across my trousers. Luckily, the majority of the times, I hadn't spilt my drink - I'd simply wet myself.

The material of the dish does not matter as long as the device can stick to it.
