Double ended bulldozer   (+7)  [vote for, against]
A crawler tractor with a dozer blade front and back

A machine for certain types of excavating where the pushing distances are short and the constant turning around of the machine wastes enough time that a machine with dozer blades on both ends makes sense. This tractor would have an operator seat on a swivel turret with one set of controls that operate each hydraulic circuit with a front/rear selector. Undercarriage parts should last longer with less turning and reversing the machine and operator together should be safer due to enhanced visibility.

Hard to believe these don't exist. Have a bun.

Any safety features to be added in swivelling, changing direction and visibility, in a Rachel Corrie manner of thinking?
-- 4and20, Sep 04 2012

Gotta be better visibility for the operator than a conventional machine and shirley better than from an armored cab.

clearly you are doing it wrong. can you describe better the scenario you are imagining? Sounds like you really need an excavator.

On a sod covered rectangle of ground you want to build a new drug store. This is a parcel previously cleared and graded as part of a shopping center development but now a couple years later is grown over with heavy weeds and grass and litter. Unload your machine and scrape this stuff back and forth into piles at either side that can be picked up during final cleanup and grading before your grand opening. One example.

But what if it is a burger "restaurant", not a drugstore, and it is only a year since the site was cleared and graded, but as part of a multi-storey car park development?
-- AbsintheWithoutLeave, Sep 05 2012

Det cord. Definitely. Weave a loose mat. Not called "daisycutters" for nothing …

Brilliant and bunworthy. +
-- blissmiss, Sep 05 2012

// But what if it's a burger "restaurant"// Example number two.

// Det cord. Definitly.// Here in the Sunshine/Tropical storm state the code enforcement people insist you start with bare dirt, not dirt with vegetation pulverized by explosives. Sorry. Save the det cord for the code enforcement people?

" … and this is the area here. Oh, just wait here a moment, I've left something in my truck …"

Works every time.

Inbetween culling planning department personnel....one link to double-ended 2CV's which were used in France for emergency work down narrow forest trails or something like that.

A double ended 2CV is twice the...erm..twice the something.

Yes, yes, well and good, but I am thinking of a three scoop bulldozer, with the triangular scoops joined at the edges and meeting at the top. One could mount the All Seeing Eye up at the apex, to Illuminate the grounds.

This would be great for zombies too.
-- bungston, Sep 05 2012

Some diggers here are fitted with a rear dozer blade, presumably to allow the Operators to smooth over their mistakes.

[+] good one - or two!
-- xandram, Sep 06 2012

Have you seen a Spaniard try to park? Just reinforce the front and rear.....
-- gnomethang, Sep 07 2012

Weren't they in that depressing movie "requiem for a coal seam", that started out all hopeful about solar, but showed that addiction to fossil fuels led to more hopeless surface mining than we could imagine?
-- leinypoo13, Sep 07 2012

Strip mining is God's way of showing you where he hid the good stuff.
-- 8th of 7, Sep 07 2012

Whenever I read he words 'strip mining' I have difficulty not picturing an x-rated gambling game based on extracted precious stones wagered against dibs for Snow White's garments.

...it's not just me is it?

that would be awkward

It's not just you NOW.
-- AusCan531, Sep 08 2012

Gee, guess the Doc bought it back there....<takes off hat and holds to chest>

Reckon it's safe to go back now...
