Easy Chopsticks   (+1)  [vote for, against]
For grabbing slippery food stuffs

We’ve all had the experience of using chopsticks and having slippery, smooth or round foodstuffs just slip out of them. (especially mushrooms) My solution is “easy chopsticks” on the inside edge of these chopsticks is a set of small, serrated rubber pads. (pieces of rubber striping in a zigzag structure) These pads would give extra grip so that the foodstuffs are less likely to slip out of your chopsticks.

Or just wait until you get really frustrated and mad and then violently stab the offending mushroom with the end of one chopstick whilst shouting WHOOSAAHH!

Now eat.

Don't worry bliss, I read that one and it's about stopping the chopsticks slipping from your "fingers".

Squeak makes me laugh.

belated croissant to you [talen] and a raspberry to UnaBubba who will be along later telling us to practice a little more.

I’m sorry, I cannot vote for this idea. I think that by adding rubber pads to my chopsticks, you would be significantly increasing the likelihood of foodstuffs getting stuck in the rubber grips and festering, adding all kinds of unnecessary germs with each bite. Using your chopsticks more frequently will alleviate this problem without adding extra germs.

I believe the rubber pads are disposable to maintain health & safety standards.

who you calling clumsy? wanna fight, come outside and say that!
-- po, Jan 24 2003

That’s almost even worse, in the US those “rubber pads” would surely be made out of plastic, and nearly anything that is disposable and plastic, is a waste of resources continually making them, and a waste of space when you throw them out (and they take 50 million years to biodegrade).

<weeps, what has the half-bakery done to the world now? weeps>
-- po, Jan 24 2003

There are already chopsticks with textured tips. They seem to work OK.

[egbert], heheh.

Isis, environmental considerations on the 'bakery? Have you read any of the ideas here?
-- RayfordSteele, Jan 24 2003

You must be using teflon-coated chopstick or something. I can pick up a grain of rice with chopsticks. I agree with [thcgenius] that chopsticks need no improvement.

Chopsticks are not used everywhere in Asia. In India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Central Asia most people have traditionally eaten with their hands. If this method were to westernized, would people need to wax their thumbs?
-- thumbwax, Jan 25 2003

Not all people.
-- angel, Jan 26 2003

Why, thank you calum. I'm glad someone understands.
-- egbert, Jan 26 2003

Chopsticks, the endings of which are coated with rose-stem-like minuscule sharp needles, which would give better grip..

-=|=|=|=|===============================

The needles should be small enough not to hurt the eater.
