Emergency spousal cut-off   (+2, -2)  [vote for, against]
Automaticall detects spouse's anger level and cuts off at the appropriate time.

In essence, this handy little device will help put an end to computer divorce. When your spouse reaches the boiling point (because once again, you just had to sit up all night and download the new Brittany Spears album over a 9600bps connection) your PC automatically shuts down. This device effectively acts as a circuit breaker. When your spouse heats up, it pops. When he/she cools back down, your in business again (if that ever occurs).

Marriage-Saving Halfbakery Shutoff Device http://www.halfbake...20Shut-Off_20Device
Or maybe you just need this. [jutta, Jun 05 2001]

Argh! But what if the machine is in the middle of a hugely complicated ray-tracing render? Or if you have finally coded that brilliant, crucial function which has been eluding your neuron for weeks and without which your whole application is garbage...but haven't yet saved? Must you lose it all just because *she* wants some attention for a change?

I'm sure version 2 will disable all input devices, save your work, and then shut down.

I'm tempted to vote for this idea simply because it is not what I thought it would be from the title.

No, version 2 will feature a really nice shutdown screen...oh wait, I thought I was Microsoft there for a second. Version 2 will come with $2,500 worth of insurance to cover lawyer fees if your divorce is related to computer over-indulgence. [Dog Ed] The point here being that you've spent a week on your ray-tracing instead of with your spouse (I feel the same way, but for some reason my wife doesn't...go figure. Like she married me to actually spend time with me). I see there is already some need for this, although I doubt anyone here would tell their spouse if it existed.

Think again, Sky Pilot. I'd tell my lady in a New York minute...if I really wanted to.
