Foam Dome   (+2, -2)  [vote for, against]
protective hair helmet

A watermelon hitting the sidewalk is not a pretty sight. Safeguard your head and its precious contents with a marvelous new method. Activated by an accelerometer chip glued to the nape of the neck, Foam Dome is prepared for any sudden movement in any direction when skiing, cycling, boxing, stumbling or crashing in a car, train or airplane.

The dome of foam itself is created by a thousand, rupturing mini-capsules each affixed to a hair three inches from the scalp. Attached by a special appliance at the local hair salon, the slim line mini-capsules give a voluminous mane, easy to comb and brush.

However when activated in a dangerous situation the tiny containers instantaneously spew out quick-drying, polyurethane foam that quintuples their size, giving the wearer a rigid 360° shield.

I don't get it, and I don't want to.: (

can you invent an air bag for the skull?
-- dentworth, Feb 15 2005

[Klaatu] It's reapplied when needed after haircuts.

and the wearer soon dies afterwards of suffocation from his 'head shield', right?

No one has complained yet.

What if you're half bald? Can you have the capsules affixed to your toupee?

When the crisis is past, do you shave your head, or wait for the foam dome to grow out?

yes, Yes, YES!
-- FarmerJohn, Feb 15 2005

My hair already does this to some degree on humid days.
