Fractal Clock   (+2)  [vote for, against]
What has 13 faces and 39 hands?

“Back to the drawing board, huh? I hope it’s not another clock.”
”‘Fraid so, a fractal clock, actually.”
”Yes, it does look fractal with the repeated circles in decreasing scale.”
”Right, see the second hand? It supports a clock face with three smaller clocks mounted on its own hands.”
”Neat, so altogether 12 faces that wheel around but stay right side up.”
”Uh huh, and all the minute hands move in parallel, for example. Then, about twice an hour, all the clock faces line up in a row.”
”So how do you see the time if they cross over each other?”
”I’ll make them transparent with few moving parts. The motors and wires are hidden behind the hands. Though the clockwork is daunting, I’m planning one with one more step of progression – it’ll have 40 clocks in one.”
”I can’t wait to see this one in action, like a ballet of slowly whirling snowflakes.

What has no face or hands, but 33 cubes? [Nicotronics, Mar 16 2009]

[FarmerJohn], cool, but hard to read. It's possible that you have too much time on your hands.

So does it come with a Cracker Jack Harvard diploma too?

Telling time seems complicated but I think if I got one I would learn. Another great conversation peice.

If I had the time (heh) I'd make a little clock program that would bake this electronically. It would be easy, but suck up too much effort. If I really had a lot of spare resources, I could imagine baking a truely fractallous version that you could zoom into indefinately.

Could this be baked by using mirrors?
-- theircompetitor, Feb 17 2004

I was talking about the software type of program.
