Fridgecam   (+12, -1)  [vote for, against]
Channel surf your Refrigerator

Cameras mounted in the cooler and freezer compartments of your refrigerator to enable the user to view and inventory the contents without getting off the couch. Inexpensive Web cams would be mounted inside of the fridge with views of key compartments and shelves. The refrigerator light would come on when the system was activated and shut itself off after a brief period of inactivity. A small micro processor and video card would be installed and linked by cable to your television set. You could use a preset channel with a menu feature to surf your refrigerator for snacks or inventory your beverages during commercials, between downs, ect.. The kids would love it as they all seem to spend hours examining the fascinating contents of the fridge with the door open. Think of the energy savings there!

Here’s an interesting link to a refrigerator that has everything but fridgecams! [Ardd, Oct 02 2002, last modified Oct 04 2004]

(??) A typical live fridge cam http://www.millenic...~smithg/fridge.html
Very boring, beecause the interior of a fridge is dark most of the time. Actually there are lots of these - do a Google search for the rest... [hippo, Oct 02 2002, last modified Oct 04 2004]

Heh. That link is interesting. I must say that that is the first titanium skinned fridge I've ever heard of.

//...energy savings...// From running a webcam, a VDU/TV unit and having the fridge light on when the door isn't open?
-- calum, Oct 02 2002

Forget the energy savings. Thumbwax has the right idea... protection of cold beer. I *hate* it when someone drinks my fridge cooled beer. I went to all the trouble of buying and carefully arranging them in the fridge so that they would be cool and accessible. Only for some joker to pinch one from under my nose!

Fridgecam gets my vote.

Jinbish, are you casting aspersions?
-- calum, Oct 02 2002

Not at all. I just like beer. My beer. Mine. All mine.

Idea: rather than a live video/web cam, I suggest a booby-trap like flash camera. This would go off twice in quick succession, should it be triggered by a thief.the first photo would be the evidence of theft. The second would be for comedy purposes...to catch the expression of the thief that has been caught.

Or to measure their speed as they flee from the frightening fridge, a la speed cameras.

It could also serve as a reminder of what's growing inside your refrigerator because you haven't cleaned it yet.

Thought of this yesterday when trying to remember from the shops whether I had a load of peppers in the fridge or not. [+]

How do you REALLY KNOW the light goes out when you shut the door? A perfect solution.

Brilliant!
