Glowing Teddy Bear   (+6, -1)  [vote for, against]

Little kids hate the dark and love teddy bears. If the bear was made of a piezoelectric material, the bear would glow when the kid squeezed it,and you wouldn't have to use a nightlight.

Or it could just be battery powered.

well baked. [prufrax, Jan 14 2005]

http://www.glowbear.com/ ""GLOW BEAR" family products are the original Teddy Bears that glow in the dark. All others are copies." [Worldgineer, Jan 14 2005]

If this isn't baked, it should be. (Seems a wee bit Kingish to me, but hey, children like clowns and don't find them scary.)

there was a theory (probably now discarded) that young children should sleep in the dark for healthy eyesight. despite that, THIS I love.

It's no teddy bear, but there's a "Glow Worm", light-up cuddly toy that has been around a while. (link)

Too bad this is baked. Make it a fiber-optic (with color changing light) teddy bear and Bob's yer uncle. Hmmm, might not be very comfortable to sleep with, though.

I had a Glow worm when I was a wee lad. Its resting in a trunk somewhere in Texas ...

When I found out a piezo lighter spark would make a sheet of electroluminescent material flash with light (like Times Indiglo) I thought they should have a little ratchet pawl thing on Rev-up toys or wind up toys that struck a piezo crystal making the toy light up without batteries.

Imagine a million toy cars that light up, possibly stay lit when you rev them. Good for Disney, or then Pixar.

Bears are scary. Instead, pick a friendlier shape-- something soft and light like a marshmallow or a sheet over a ball that hovers somehow and emits moaning sounds...
