Public: Charity
Goodwill Online (Karma gaming Site)   (+3, -1)  [vote for, against]
A website where you are encouraged to charity whore

It is a website where you are given a card, to which you can gain points in doing good things.

You can gain points by doing either one of these things( verified by giving these charity your card ID):

Donate

Volunteer

Getting the noble peace prize

Rescue a person

Invent something that can save a life

etc...

So now we have a problem... yes some people would be content in just getting the highest point in the ranking billboard, but most do not.

The solution to this is to actually provide more value to gaining points.

These can be done by making the website a mmorpg game. So that while you can grind you way though, you are better off charity whoring.

and/or in addition to the online website game, you can also spend your points on discount coupons by participating companies. This way there is actually a monetary benefit in helping people out.

//charity whoring// Huh?
-- pertinax, Jan 18 2009

It's the only way some of us get any these days, you know
-- BunsenHoneydew, Jan 18 2009

hmmm bunsenhuneydew... your example http://www.shopgoodwill.com/ does seem similar, however it's the polar opposite of what this idea is about.

That site you shown me appears to functions like this:

You buy stuff ----> Help Charity

while my idea goes like this:

You charity whore yourself -----> You get stuff

It's 'positive' prostitution in a metaphorical sense, you keep society happy, and you get something in return.

Have you consulted your family on this?
-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 18 2009

Well the idea didn't say that you can only gain points by giving your time away, you can still gain points just by donating to a certified charity.

Its like World Of Warcraft, you can still level up without spending too much effort, but you just level up slower.

How do you prevent people from purposely endangering others just so they can rescue them for "credit"?
-- Jscotty, Jan 21 2009

I guess for evidence, perhaps the rescue has to be either published by a newspaper, or recognized by an authority such as the police.

In other words, you cannot claim it by yourself, you have to back it up with evidence.(And since not many rescue tends to happen, it can be quickly audited by a human and google)

Since claiming rescues is more involved than simply getting filmed walking a granny across the road (or a chicken) , naturally there be higher Karma Points awarded to it as well.
