HalfBakery Rewind   (+6, -3)  [vote for, against]
[insert-snappy-yet-strangely-intuitive-subtitle-here]

This would be a rewind feature on the halfbakery, which allows you to either jump to a specific date, or to watch a dynamic rewind with ideas, annos and votes blowing away in the mists of time.

Thus you could see what the halfbakery was like, say, when 'Panic PIN' was first written, then speed through and watch those votes fly in!

If you tried to vote, anno or create a new idea, it would appear in the present day, of course (no meddling with the past).

Ideas written by now-gone halfbakers would only be shown, but without names. The same would go for their annotations.

There's always the wayback machine, although it's hit or miss on dates.
-- RayfordSteele, Aug 14 2005

I occasionally like using the way-back machine on a random date and seeing the ideas that didn't make the cut to present day HB.

I think this is mostly baked, apart from the skipping to present day stuff and the hiding of past old bakers.

Thanks, [zen_tom]. That would be quite cool. However, it might have problems with phrases that can be broken up in different ways. Please do let me know. (I was going to write back in code, but I couldn't be bothered.)

'sator arepo tenet opera rotas' (try converting that with the code - it means 'Arepo the sower holds the wheels at work').

Running "CEBYTROATXSTWT OTYIRIGTHTIYHA" through the anagram finder yielded "The swarthy ratty toxicity bigot". I hate that guy!

[DF] see [dbmag]'s profile - it's in code(get your pencil and paper out!)
-- zen_tom, Aug 16 2005

[zen_tom] - I used Notepad, set to Courier New. You can easily read top to bottom in a fized-width font. But pen and paper do add a nice element to the decryption game.

(actually, I use Textpad myself ;) - [Pa`ve] "MARRN YSIO TTSK OEBE"
-- zen_tom, Aug 16 2005

Try and make it fit a perfect square - you get a bigger sense of acheivement. May I suggest MARRN YSION TTSKO OEBEW instead? ON HO is the reply.

How did we get onto this? Ah - [zen_tom] has taken us from the path.

I'm sorry [dbmag9] yep, my fault!

On the idea [+] generally for granular and transaction based systems that can be stepped forwards and backwards in time. In the future all things will be made this way, esp. if I've got anything to do with it.
