Halfbakery Database   (+1, -1)  [vote for, against]
A personal program for remembering the little things.

<prologue> This may be baked. I couldn't find it around here in this form, although the posts on newbie information leads me to suspect that someone has mentioned it sometime in the distant past. </prologue>

A database module that you would download and install on your computer. This module would let you enter information gleaned from the HB pages and annotations, to help you develop a profile of active bakers. Such information as sex (it's not always obvious), geographic location, realtime job, pets, likes, dislikes and so on.

The geographic location might be a world map, with a virtual pin you can place in the apparent location of the baker's origin.

it was on this one... http://www.halfbake...20that_20Moniker_3f
[po, Oct 05 2004]

Did you repost this? I could swear this was here just recently.

Anyway, no. It's about ideas, not users.
-- waugsqueke, May 20 2003

I would argue that this site would be quite barren if it weren't for the annotation input and distinct personalities of its users.

This program would be for personal use, and it would be up to the baker to develop his/her own info. We needn't saddle Jutta with the task.
-- Cedar Park, May 20 2003

It would be even more barren without ideas.

You just removed and reposted this idea, yes? Why? That's just a tad creepy particularly considering that the idea is about how much info you want to gather about bakers.
-- waugsqueke, May 20 2003

I didn't see it. Then again, I might not have been looking.

And anyway, I think this site is much better off without a roadmap. Do you need everything spoonfed?
-- DrCurry, May 20 2003

I didn't post this idea (or remove it). It may have disappeared for an instant as I was editing my first annotation. It might be a 'C' programming thing.

There's a difference between being spoonfed and keeping tabs on the people that you interact with on a daily basis.

This is _not_ an online database, nor does it automatically glean information.

[edited out last paragraph of idea, relating to pre-population of database]
-- Cedar Park, May 20 2003

I don't want you keeping tabs on me, thanks. I'm sure many others will agree. And I don't buy your explanation of the repost.
-- waugsqueke, May 20 2003

(frowns, crosses arms) but... but... I didn't repost! Honest! (pouts)
-- Cedar Park, May 20 2003

You can do all that is asked for in the idea by reading ideas and annotations. You don't need a computer program to do this.
-- my face your, May 20 2003

I'm not asking the computer program to read for me, I'm using a database to keep small snippets of information about the hundreds of bakers. I'm filling in the information as I read.
-- Cedar Park, May 20 2003

Well, I never saw this idea in any previous incarnation by [Cedar Park].
-- bristolz, May 20 2003

FYI, bristolz is a long-haul truck driver.
-- thumbwax, May 21 2003

I'm a wannabee lumberjack. I have a world map of halfbakers on the wall of my den but I have neglected it of late.
-- po, May 21 2003

<python> I'm a.... </python> Oh, I just can do that. [po], you can stick in a pin for me at 49° 11' N, 123° 10' W.
-- Cedar Park, May 21 2003

Done!
-- po, May 21 2003

I'm Spartacus.

(*I* remember seeing the first incarnation of this idea)
-- hippo, May 21 2003

I think this is called Excel. In addition to columns for physical characteristics (age, location) that intrigue you, might I suggest additional surrealistic columns (falling water, apricots) to capture the interesting tidbits.
-- latka, May 21 2003

I am a really big fat tall Chinese guy with a red afro, or a super small skinny short Samoan with blonde dreadlocks. I live at the South Pole with my dear friend Chilly Willy and an aluminum coffee mug, or on Easter Island with the abdominal snow-chick.

I'm a bit confused, have a fishbone.
-- ato_de, May 21 2003

If anything, this is Baked by the HBIBDIRLID Cross ref database in IBD, which contains everything you really need to know, and no more.
-- DrCurry, May 21 2003

Sp: abdominal: of, or having to do with the abdomen. The abdominal snow-chick is quite tall, but has short legs and a very small breast.
-- ato_de, May 21 2003

who said the snow-chick is a fem? it's a baby chicken, who can tell the gender of a baby chicken? <animaniacs> It's a chicken, a giant chicken, I tell you! </animaniacs>
-- ato_de, May 21 2003

I'm a bit confused, have a fishbone.
-- ato_de, May 21 2003

[ato_de]: //I'm a bit confused, have a fishbone// ... //I'm a bit confused, have a fishbone.//

You must be quite confused. You gave me two! (Thanks.)
-- Cedar Park, May 21 2003

there was some other stuff in between there, I swear it was right there! ... there was this little pest with a round belly ... and he said mean things ... not true things ... he insulted my chick ...

I think.

I'm a bit confused, have a fishbone. ;-)
-- ato_de, May 22 2003

This *was* here recently, I'm sure, and resulted in the resurrection of the world halfbakery location map. Don't remember who posted it or what it was called or when or any other useful info. In fact I might as well shut up as I've nothing useful to add. I'm a bit confused. Have a fishbone.
-- egbert, May 22 2003

well I believe him but then I am a hopeless judge of character. surely, you can keep your own database on some other application. I cannot see the point of this, sorry Cedar.
-- po, May 22 2003

Notepad suffices for all my creepy stalker needs!

(BTW, on the world map, stick a push-pin a little bit to the left of Cedar Park. That's me.)
-- rapid transit, May 24 2003

What po said.

I posted a 'baker location idea thingy, but it's been baked. Can't think where it is.
-- galukalock, May 24 2003

madradish, I think it was, that linked to a worldmap on bliss's mad cupcakes idea which has now gone phoof, is that the one you meant, galuka?
-- po, May 24 2003

[po] Yup. That's it.
-- galukalock, May 24 2003

That would be the "Halfbakery Bakery" idea by 'thecat', that bliss is talking about.
-- waugsqueke, May 24 2003

No [hippo] - *I'm* waugsqueke, and so's my wife.
-- PeterSilly, May 24 2003

This is not a creepy idea. It's quite smart. If someone did it on their own they should then make it available to the site if it wouldn't add to much burden to the sites viability. Right on CedarPark (re: response to spoonfed comment) -- my thoughts exactly.

What was the MadCupcake Idea?
-- thecat, Jun 27 2003

Still waiting.
-- thecat, Jul 12 2003

told you before, if you want to know - YOU ask me.
-- po, Jul 12 2003

First rule of Mad Cup Cakes, don't talk about Mad Cup Cakes...
-- silverstormer, Jul 12 2003

po * } silverstormer ;).

[po] So you've taken to quoting me and taking credit for it. Figures. Par for your course, of course. Will do.
-- thecat, Jul 12 2003

You just haven't figured out your litter box have you? [tc]
-- Tiger Lily, Jul 12 2003

[po] Are you deaf, dumb or just ...

What did I just say (as if you didn't know damn well). I believe I said I will e- you, you nasty *^#@. BTW - I forgot to send my response via e- to a "lovely person" named Cassandra. Is that you?

That will be in the mail ASAP (Just sent it out now!)
-- thecat, Jul 12 2003

Feel free to stalk us if you really want to, but please, don't make a new invention to do it for you! I hate getting stalked by Bots.
