Halfbakery: Garbage Collection
Halfbakery spring cleaning   (+4, -2)  [vote for, against]
I've been hesitant to post this, and I hope I am not once again stuffing my foot in my mouth but....

I have noticed a lot of dead links, and Swiss cheesed ideas scattered throughout the bakery, and I imagine that to find and delete all of these must be a moderator’s nightmare. It should be the responsibility of the individual users to clean up their own messes and to this end I would like to know if there is a way to configure a view that would show just "my links".
"My annos" to the left has an individuals posted links as well as annotations but if there is a way to cut to the chase and see only ones links it would be an easy task to go through them once in a while and cull or refresh the dead ones. Also, I wonder if there is a way to help the moderators out by flagging the dead links left by users who are no longer present with an [mfd] link tag.

Link Rover Link Rover
Or build one of these and point it at the bakery. (Blatant self promotion). [krelnik, Oct 05 2004, last modified Oct 17 2004]

Good idea! It wouldn't take much to look through a list like this.

Hmm. I think I like the dead link reported in an anno idea. Maybe structured as [linkdead] for an idea with only a single link that is dead and [linkdead-x] where x=the position of the link counted as from the top of the links list for ideas with multiple links and one dead link. For ideas with more than one dead link, maybe the form [linkdead-x,y,z].

That's just my opinion. Please don't do go off and do this until [jutta] makes her thoughts about this known.

Wouldn't dream of it.

Oh, and the person posting the [deadlink] tag in their anno would need to understand that their anno will be deleted by a moderator once the dead links are edited. This happens by default on [mfd]s because the entire idea and annos are deleted but, in this case, the idea remains and so the [deadlink] tag needs to go away.

I try to revisit links that I've added when their parent ideas pop up again, but I have no real system to it. It would be nice to be able to search for them apart from annotations. I tried to kludge it with a view, but "http" is a stop word in the search engine.
