Computer: Security: CAPTCHA
IQ-Capcha   (+5, -1)  [vote for, against]

Sorry, this solely exists as some halfbaker - who shall remain nameless - put it up.

The idea was tricky maths problems to solve as the capcha, and use that as way to prevent low IQ people posting their asinine remarks.

As I tried to add an anno, the server wouldn't let me and I thought "Blimey, it's working already", but it was just the idea had been deleted while I was typing it...

Elitist Capcha
[xaviergisz, Jul 03 2014]

For a particular electronics seller I know of, you have to decode the value of a resistor by its color bands in order to get in to the comments area.
-- lurch, Jul 03 2014

I can feel some sympathy with that, trying to exclude those of an assimilating nature, as to them resistance is useless. I wonder what they use instead of resistors?

But, I digress.

Perhaps a haiku-capcha would be more effective? But the starting parameters would need a bit of work.

Lovely.

This would exclude me from basically everything. ...and from learning enough to be able to even learn what I do not know.
Thanks eh.

There is a very... VERY, large difference between intelligence and learnedness.

You 'will' learn this fact.

You poor blind fools.
-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, Jul 04 2014

There are captchas for the blind, so that's been taken care of. I do not know the details behind how IQ is measured, but this would only screen out those with weak ciphering skills. I'll wager IQ measures much more than that.

typing this capcha

is that an 0 or zero

I cannot decide

Unoriginal, baked, AND based on a bad premise.
-- Voice, Jul 04 2014

//Unoriginal, baked, AND based on a bad premise.

Not my idea anyway, so I don't mind...

Anyway, these premises have far too many cockroaches....

//large difference between intelligence and learnedness

Not so, firstly they both contain three e's, one l, one n and a double- consonant, they are both nouns, both are written in the Latin alphabet and both exist in the same language (English)...ok, explain that eh, eh?
-- not_morrison_rm, Jul 04 2014

um...

...intelligence has two L's?
-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, Jul 04 2014

Minor details...
-- not_morrison_rm, Jul 04 2014

Just because someone has a high IQ doesn't mean they won't post asinine remarks.

A high IQ doesn't mean you're not an idiot. It just makes you a quick-thinking idiot.
-- Wrongfellow, Jul 05 2014

Why do you look at me when you say that?
-- not_morrison_rm, Jul 05 2014

//It just makes you a quick-thinking idiot//

So... a savant? Shame that that word always seems to be preceded by the word idiot.
I dislike that word.
Idiot.
It just rolls off the tongue wrong-like, ends all harsh and stuff.

How about substituting the word mediocre? ...or average?
Heck, I'll even vote for atypical...

Atypical is good.
-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, Jul 11 2014

I did get some name cards printed out with

(my name)

Idiot Savant

(we`re sure about the first part)

and no one noticed....waste of time
-- not_morrison_rm, Jul 11 2014

Trying to find a quote; I remember reading once someone wrote "It may be that our technology will require such specialization that a sufficiently advanced technician will be indistinguishable from a moron."
-- lurch, Jul 11 2014

Again, why do you look at me when you say that?
-- not_morrison_rm, Jul 11 2014

I propose a new word;

...that word is 'ideat', and furthermore I hereby declare each and every halfbaker to be an ideat savant by association.

so there.
-- 2 fries shy of a happy meal, Jul 12 2014

<puzzled expression>
-- not_morrison_rm, Jul 12 2014

"ideation" is already a word. Is "ideat" not perforce its root?
-- lurch, Jul 13 2014

// Is "ideat" not perforce its root?//

Nope. Ideate is the root according to the etymological dictionary.
So Ideat would be Idea + here... caught up in, or where ideas reside.

//Intelligence sauvant// wouldn't have anything to do with espionage would it?
