Left Return   (+3, -2)  [vote for, against]
left return, or left enter

A computer keyboard with another return key (Mac) or enter key (PC) instead of caps lock, and a sliding switch above the function keys to toggle caps lock. Why you ask? My right pinky tends to get somewhat cramped in my enter-intensive data entry job, it would be nice to balance the load between my left and right pinkies. As for caps-lock, I used to be in the banish it camp, but in the IDX software that I have to use caps-lock is mandatory.

Just remap CapsLock to Return [jester, May 17 2002, last modified Oct 04 2004]

Alternatively, you could replace half the spacebar, since most of us tend to use just one thumb to hit it anyway.

Or you could have many keyboards stacked on top of each other, with foot pedals, and twisty buttons and nobs, church organ style.

You should put the return button on the edge of the keyboard, like on a manual typewriter. That would be much more fun.

pottedstu: Button!? BUTTON!? The proper carriage return is a LEVER, which is operated by the LEFT hand pushing it to the right a few inches.

Noooo! I'm too used to a traditional keyboard, another button would just confuse the living Hell out of me.

Which 'traditional' keyboard? Dvorak or Qwerty? Bilingual Canadian or Russian?

pressure sensor in wrist pad thingy could function as return - just set the activation level high enough so you don't get false hits; then you can just slam the palm of either hand down to engage

Quit your whining, take off your shoes and use your toes -- just like everyone else.
