Lotions with SPFs of less than one   (0)  [vote for, against]

People with dark skin may not need sun protection. People who go out to the beach for a just few minutes at a time, same thing. But think of what they’re missing. Having their S.O. sensuously rub suntan lotion in, deeply and slowly, while they lie there, mostly nude.

Thus this specialized lotion with a fractional SPF. It would be a oil based cream with no UV absorbers of any kind. The index of refraction would be lower than that of water (<1.33), creating an anti-reflection coating for the skin, allowing the skin to absorb more UV, and reflect less. So that SPFs (Sun Protection Factors) in the range of .5 to 1.0 would be possible.

To enhance the natural UV, which is a quite small fraction of the solar spectrum, finely ground crystals (e.g., LiF) could added to frequency double some of the visible radiation into the UV range. Using this UV-enhanced, ultra low SPF cream, it would be possible to get a tan even at sunset.

What is SPF? http://dermatology....m/library/blspf.htm
"The amount of light that induces redness in sunscreen-protected skin, divided by the amount of light that induces redness in unprotected skin is the SPF" [half, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

please, Please, PLEASE, don't put it in a bottle that an inattentive, red headed, freckledy type person who burns to a lobster-like hue in mere seconds (thereby leading to days of pain and peeling), might mistake for actual sunscreen. Not that I know anyone like that. I just thought I'd mention it.

“Why girl, it’s not five, it says point five. Good Lord, look at you! And the prom’s not but a week away...”

Just get some hand lotion or something. There are lots of skin products that don't offer SPF.

I was about to suggest hand lotion as well. Then it dawned on me that pluterday was talking about SPF < 1, essentially, negative levels of protection. No protection at all is SPF 1.

Gee [dbousa], I like bristolz' comment better...

I think you'd be better off finding chemicals or drugs that speed the body's reaction to UV, rather than trying to increase the amount of UV. Skin cancer, after all, will mar even the deepest tan.

Shoot...another pasty white safety nut.

(Ah, that wasn't meant as a call to arms...)
