Experimental sites in hostile locations for the testing of space equipment already exist. They are used by space agencies and are typically located in deserts or volcanic regions.

With this scheme, anyone can have a go, for a weekend, or longer.

The accomodation is a set of inflated fabric domes, in one of said hostile localities. Facilities are intentionally very basic; not uncomfortable, just limited , a sort if high-tech camping. Food is nutritious, but also limited - as is water, and energy use. What you can bring with you is limited by both mass and volume, probably to just a few kilos. There are few windows, and if you want to go outside, you have to wear an environment suit.

Partcipants would have a duty roster - time in the control room, time spent outside on science missions, time working in the hydroponic greenhouse.

The idea is to be able to experience for a few days what life for an exploration team would be like.

The "trip" would include a day's training on how things work.

There's a small TV in the communal area, but all it ever shows is Total Recall on a continuous loop.

If it's the original, I would be interested.

If it's the remake, I'll be outside picketing re the inhumane conditions.

[+] Didn't even read the idea: went straight from Recent to bun... okay, I thought it would be in a low-pressure dome.

We're not liable for any damage if it turns out you're prone to schizoid embolisms. Just take this red pill, you'll be fine ...
