Metal Hydride Regenerator   (+1)  [vote for, against]
For a Stirling Engine

I was recently reading about metal hydrides used for hydrogen storage, and learned that most of these materials absorb large quantities hydrogen when cooled, and release that hydrogen when heated.

If such a material were used as the regenerator of a Stirling engine which used hydrogen as the working fluid, significant gains in efficiency might be achieved.

any idea what kind of efficiency this conversion gets? I do know from reading about hydrogen powered vehicles that the stuff is kind of expensive and degrades quickly if exposed to oxygen.
