Modular Playground Sculpture   (+7)  [vote for, against]
possibilities

Most playgrounds in the US now feature modular playground equipment: various decks, slides, bridges, poles, monkey bars and structures like alphabet wheels etc which are assembled into a structure suitable for the play space. These modular playgrounds are generally assembled around a series of vertical poles, with elements bolted on at right angles. In California, the substrate is concrete covered with a thick rubberized mat.

I propose that sculpture be created using modular playground equipment as the medium. I envision an Escher like structure but in the attached you will see that his world is also mostly right angles. Other possibilities might be explored - for example in one the pole supports would not be vertical, but at 30 or 60 degrees from vertical. Slides would not necessarily start from high and go to low. Stairs might be tilted sideways. Maybe one would be almost all slides.

A variety of installations could be made. Integral to the project is that these things retain their identity as play structures, and age appropriate kids clambering over them should be part of the display.

I like the idea of slides that dump kids on their heads, unexpectedly. Suffer the little children.

no unexpected dumping. that messes up the art.
