Insure yourself against being over-insured

With all the various types of insurance available today (including insurance insurance and insurance insurance insurance) there is a real risk of being over-insured -- helped in part by over-zealous brokers and sales people bringing new products to market.

Like any other risk, the risk of being over-insured can be covered. Your insurance company may choose to seek damages from your over-insurer (it is illegal in some cases, or at least ill-advised, to cover the same form of insurance for one individual from different products). Or they may simply do the math to work out just how over-insured the average person is likely to be risking, and cover that risk.
